We are very selective in terms of who
we work with. To ensure we allocate the proper time and resources
to our chosen projects, we expect to make fewer investments
than certain other venture funds.
WCP operates as a true partnership
when contemplating investment decisions. If every person on
the team is not 'on board' with a certain opportunity, we
will not move forward. We feel this is the only was to stay
focused and keep our collective interests aligned.
When we choose to work with an entrepreneur,
we are forging a long-term relationship. We are not simply
a provider of capital; we aim to be an active resource for
our managers. Our intent is not to be overbearing or heavy
handed - we accord our partners the respect they deserve.
An overbearing approach would tell us that one of our key
screening criteria has failed. Additionally, we do not necessarily
look for or need the all-encompassing management team - we
can utilize our network to help build that. We get more excited
to find one or two key people with passion, intelligence and
vision. We feel that is the ultimate determinant of success
or failure in early stage venture.
The strength of our network and connections
will be instrumental in every step of the process. Our network
cannot guarantee success nor can it turn a weak technology
into a viable business. What it can do is provide tremendous
resources to our portfolio companies by giving them every
possible chance to succeed.
