We are currently raising Homeland
Security Investors, LP, a $75 million early stage venture
partnership. Our intended first closing will be in April,
2004. As stated, our mission is to be the premier early stage
venture fund focusing on Homeland Security technologies. The
events of September 11th, 2001 have forever changed the world
in which we live. Homeland Security is now a key directive
in the strategic planning of the U.S. Government and corporate
America. As such, a wave of R&D spending has begun and will
continue for the foreseeable future. In our opinion, this
is not a passing dynamic. The problem of terrorism will be
confronting us for many years to come. Utilizing traditional
deal sourcing as well as technology transfer opportunities,
we will capitalize on the robust deal flow that increased
federal and corporate R&D spending will bring.
WCP will look to be the first institutional
investor in any given opportunity. We will lead commitments
of approximately $1.0 to $5.0 million, with a portion of capital
held in reserve for follow-on funding. We will selectively
co-invest in opportunities that meet our criteria.
Our team will aggressively and efficiently
meet the need for an early stage venture capital effort devoted
to Homeland Security. Other funds will surely enter the mix,
though few, if any, will have the industry knowledge, investment
experience, and network we do.
